Rem left the Earth aboard Project Seeds when the planet&#039;s resources were all consumed and it became inhospitable. In their search for a new home, the remnants of humanity, with their cryogenically frozen human cargo in tow, traveled the stars and came upon a young Vash and Knives alone on a hostile planet. While most of the crew wanted to exterminate them, Rem stood in the way and saved them. She was treated by Vash and Knives like human beings, and not monsters.  

Rem is Vash&#039;s inspiration. She&#039;s the reason why he won&#039;t kill, for she once had said &quot;No one has the right to take the life of another.&quot; She&#039;s also the inspiration for Vash choosing to wear a red coat. Rem&#039;s favorite flower was the red geranium, a flower that symbolized unshakable determination. Wearing the red coat not only reminds him of Rem, but also reminds him of his promise not to kill and to help others. 

Vash the Stampede is a wanted man with a habit of turning entire towns into rubble. The price on his head is a fortune, and his path of destruction reaches across the arid wastelands of a desert planet. Unfortunately, most encounters with the spiky-haired gunslinger don't end well for the bounty hunters who catch up with him; someone almost always gets hurt - and it's never Vash. 
 
Oddly enough, for such an infamous fugitive, there's no proof that he's ever taken a life. In fact, he's a pacifist with a doughnut obsession who's more doofus than desperado. There's a whole lot more to him than his reputation lets on - Vash the Stampede definitely ain't your typical outlaw.

The series is often humorous in tone, but at the same time it involves very serious character development and especially in later episodes it becomes quite emotionally intense. Vash is occasionally joined by a priest, Nicholas D. Wolfwood, who is almost as good a gunfighter as Vash himself, and later is targeted by a band of assassins known as the Gung-Ho Guns for reasons which are mysterious at first. 
Trigun evolves into a very serious discussion of the nature of morality, posing questions such as: What is the nature of morality? Can we judge different moral codes? If a person is forced to betray their moral code, does that betrayal invalidate that moral code, and can the person still try to live up to that moral code? Can the person find redemption from their wrongs, and if so, how?

Sequel season to TRIGUN STAMPEDE. 

It’s been two and a half years since the Lost JuLai tragedy, which laid waste to an entire city and engulfed the whole planet in chaos. Meryl, now a senior journalist, continues her search for Vash with her new younger sidekick, Milly, and runs into Wolfwood along the way. As plant robberies begin taking place once again, they sense Millions Knives’s organization conspiring behind the scenes. 

Meanwhile, Vash has taken the new name Eriks and is living in hiding in a backwater town when he gets an abrupt visit from Jessica, a young girl with an SOS from the third ship they call home. He thus decides to put an end to a long-standing feud in order to protect those dear to him. 

Just as the pieces of the story begin falling back together again, the planet receives a message from the far reaches of outer space: “We are a fleet of colony ships from Earth... Those who wish may accompany us to a new frontier.” The entire population rejoices at this news. However, as if to mock their celebration, the one-winged angel returns to wreak havoc and despair. Fates collide to forge a final conclusion for the panicked planet.
