Haru is the male protagonist of the story. He is a high school student who sits next to Shizuku in class. He is a delinquent boy who is absent for a long time after getting in a fight early in the story. Despite being a trouble maker, he is a passionate boy who helps others and can achieve high grades with little effort. He does not like going to school because most people see him as a threat and are afraid of him, saddening him as he is unable to make real friends. After meeting Shizuku, he takes her as his first real friend and starts to attend school, falling in love with her in the process. He also keeps a rooster and brings it to school everyday, despite his teacher's disapproval. He has somewhat of a perverted mind, openly saying to Shizuku that he would "do" her and has "dirty thoughts" about her. It is unclear whether or not he actually thinks before he speaks.    ~!At first, Haru was shown to be a delinquent, but as the story unfolds, it was revealed that he was rather a shy and innocent boy. However, he has bipolar tendencies, most likely the result of not interacting with many people in the past.!~

Standoffish, reclusive Shizuku Mizutani cares far more about earning stellar grades than cultivating friendships. But her opinions on friendship and relationships begin to change when she meets habitual truant Haru Yoshida, who happens to have a rather fearsome reputation. Like Shizuku, Haru’s reputation has made it difficult to make friends. And yet through their budding friendship and stirrings of attraction the unlikely pair learns to understand one another, the world around them, and the tenor of their own emotions.

Tatsuhisa is a Japanese voice actor and singer, and he is affiliated with I'm Enterprise and Lantis. He is the vocalist of the rock band [OLDCODEX](https://anilist.co/staff/112151/OLDCODEX) under his stage name Ta_2, who also provides the opening/ending themes of many of the anime he stars in. He not only sings but also composes some of the songs. He also belongs to Style Five, in charge of the endings of Free! He also likes bicycling, karaoke, reading and video games. 

He is known for his numerous roles in anime series, his main breakout roles in the West were as Takao in Kuroko no Basuke and especially as Makoto Tachibana in Free!. He is not only known for his voice in anime, but also in video games. For example, he gave voice to Noctis (FFXV) and Alfonse (FEH). 

He is married to the famous singer [LiSA](https://anilist.co/staff/105561/LiSA). In late July 2021, it was reported that he was involved in an affair with a 20-year old fan. The next month he announced that he would suspend all entertainment activities due to poor health, later issuing an apology for his "irresponsible and inappropriate actions". His agency stated that he would gradually resume activities while recovering. In March 2022, his agency announced his full return to work from hiatus, along with another apology to fans.

Haru gets suspended on the first day of school when he encounters some bullies harassing a student and dispatches the bullies with great bloody violence. Mizutani is tasked with delivering school materials to Haru who interprets this as an act of friendship and latches on to Mizutani, much to her dismay. And so begins a strange and potentially combustible relationship!
