Gold grew up in a home full of baby Pokémon. His neighbors in Wakaba Town refer to his family as the "Poké House". He usually wears a pair of goggles and travels on a scooter. Instead of throwing/kicking his Poké Balls, he uses a billiard cue to shoot them out, allowing for tactical maneuvers and deployments of his Pokémon. Gold's hobbies include gambling, skateboarding, and trying foods from different cities. His favorite idol/DJ is Kurumi from the Kogane Radio Station.

Dr. Yukinari Okido noted that Gold is even more reckless and stubborn than Red. He likes playing billiards, but sometimes he may use his Pokémon to cheat. Gold's mother has described him as "careless". Gold also tends to lie or exaggerate at times, in a bid to make himself seem more impressive, and other people around him notice it. He also seems to exhibit a one-track mind at times, being an ardent fan of pretty girls like Kurumi, Mikan and the Kimono Girls, but failing to recognize Matsuba or the Johto Elite Four.

Despite his negative traits, Gold is also noted for his moments of ingenuity, formulating plans and executing them spontaneously while appearing to slack off. Ultimately, Gold cares extremely for those around him and won't hesitate to sacrifice everything for their sake.

This chapter features the journeys of Gold through Johto trying to at first search for the ones who stole his backpack and uncovers that the ones who stole his backpack are planning something. Two other new Trainers come into the plot of the story, Silver, whose life is tied in with the villains of this series, and Crystal, an average Pokémon Trainer with a staggering talent in catching Pokémon who later helps Professor Oak catch all the Pokémon to complete his Pokédex. Along with these three, the original 3 Pokédex holders come back to help these three along with Yellow. With their aid, will Gold be able to stop the reformed Team Rocket and the Masked Man's nefarious schemes?

This chapter returns to the characters of Red, Green, and Blue, protagonists of the original Red, Green & Blue chapter of Pokémon Adventures. Red and Blue are forced to explore the Sevii Islands to look for Professor Oak who was kidnapped by a Deoxys. Meanwhile, Green has finally located her parents; however, just as she is about to meet them, they are swallowed up by a mysterious black hole. Red, Green, and Blue must locate the missing relatives with the help of a former foe, Lorelei, and Mewtwo while defeating Team Rocket again at the same time. Back in Kanto, Silver is seeking his parents as well, with the help of Yellow.

The chapter begins with focus on a Trainer named Emerald, who is sent by Professor Oak and Crystal to catch Jirachi within seven days. On arrival at the Battle Frontier, he accidentally interferes in the opening ceremonies and gains the second challenge of clearing the seven Facilities by defeating the Frontier Brains within that time. During this time, Emerald befriends Todd Snap and discovers that the masked Guile Hideout is seeking Jirachi for evil purposes.
