Mirai Kuriyama is the deuteragonist of the Kyoukai no Kanata series. She is a first-year student and a member of the school's Literary Club. She comes from a bloodline of Spirit World Warriors who possess blood-manipulation abilities. However, because these abilities are considered heretical among the Spirit World Warrior clans, she is shunned. On September 1, 2016, Office Osawa announced that Taneda would put her career on hiatus to focus on treatment for her throat, various roles she done were recast during this time such as Erina Nakiri from Food Wars who was replaced by Hisako Kanemoto from Season 3 and onwards.

On August 4, 2017, Office Osawa announced that her treatment was successful and she would gradually return to voice acting.

Episode 0 happens three years prior to the TV series when the Nase siblings meet Akihito for the first time in a mission for Hiroomi. Mitsuki follows her brother on this mission and their goal is to subjugate Akihito.

This is the second part of a two-part movie. The story takes place one year after the TV series.

The dark fantasy follows a high school sophomore named Akihito Kanbara. Although the boy appears human, he is half y&#333;mu and invulnerable to wounds because he can heal quickly. One day, Akihito meets freshman Mirai Kuriyama when it seems she is about to jump from the school rooftop. Mirai is isolated because of her ability to manipulate blood, which is unique even among members of the spirit world. Disturbing events begin to unfold after Akihito saves Mirai.
